Visit to Gardens and grounds at Dumfries House

On Saturday 12 September, a rather damp day, we discovered new additions to this landscape as well as refurbishments of old features, most notably to the formerly neglected 5-acre Walled Garden.

Arboriculturalist Donald Rodger accompanied us, together with Craig Hamilton who has worked for the estate for many years.  Much has been done in the last three years both to conserve old trees and to clear space for new planting.

Several new garden pavilions now adorn the Walled Garden, another sits in the new Arboretum and another, in the Japanese style, forms the centre of a new maze currently under construction.
