Royal High School decision

Dec 15, 2015

The City of Edinburgh Council has refused a planning application to refurbish, alter and extend the principal buildings and the pavilions of the former Royal High School at Regent Road Edinburgh.

The reasons given for refusal are:

  1. The proposal is contrary to Edinburgh City Local Plan Policy Env 4 in respect of Listed Buildings Alterations and Extensions, as the proposals fail to respect the architectural integrity, composition of special character of the listed building.
  2. The proposal is contrary to Edinburgh City Local Plan Policy Env 2 in respect of Listed Buildings Demolition, as the corresponding planning permission is not acceptable and application does not fully satisfy requirements of the SHEP.
  3. The proposals are contrary to nonstatutory guidance on Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas as the proposals fail to respect the integrity of the building having an adverse impact on its special character.

Full details of the final scheme, including the report assessing the application 15/03990/LBC, can be found on the Council website.
