Contractor/Consultant to develop a digital learning pack for the training of volunteers in the recording of historic landscapes and for the development of conservation strategies and landowners’ conservation guidance notes

Scotland’s Garden and Landscape Heritage (SGLH) is seeking expressions of interest in a contract to produce a digital learning pack to facilitate the training of volunteers to research, survey and record sites, and to promote the development of a strategy to conserve historic landscapes and a conservation guide for landowners. This project represents the third stage of a pilot project (‘Glorious Gardens’) launched by SGLH in 2014.

The learning pack will include training materials, a report template and instructions on the storage of files and non-digital materials. Specific learning guides and template documents will be produced for project leaders and volunteers. The pack will also include guidelines for leaders on setting local objectives, recruiting and training volunteers and creating community engagement as well as documents for stakeholders.

SGLH has secured the agreement of East Lothian Council that a final testing of the pack should be carried out on a number of non-inventory sites in that area. The test will include research and recording of a selected number of sites, the recruitment, briefing and training of volunteers, quarterly reviews of progress, drafting and submission of reports, uploading of site reports to Canmore and submission of a shapefile with the garden/designed landscape extents to the HER.

On completion of the Glorious Garden East Lothian project (GGEL), SGLH will organize a national conference at which the results of the project will be presented. The project will run from 01/04/20 to 31/03/23. Funding for the project has been applied for and will be confirmed in early 2020.

Applicants with proven ability in this field and experience in training and working with volunteers who wish to have further information should submit a curriculum vitae with a covering letter to info@sglh.org by 24/01/20, for the attention of Robert Luther.

Invitations to bid will be sent out online on 03/02/20 to be returned online by 21/03/20.
