New Lanark’s Bonnington landscape at the Falls of Clyde

This historically important 18th century designed landscape in the World Heritage Site Buffer Zone is in jeopardy since South Lanarkshire Council granted CEMEX permission to extend Hyndford Quarry. GHSS has been prominent in preparing the case against it as part of an umbrella group led by Prof. Mark Stephens.

The controversial proposal was ‘called in’ by the Scottish Government in Jan. 2014 and a Hearing took place last August. We still await the Minister’s decision. (Info as at 15 April 2015.) See Pleasaunce (links).
