Conservation News: Traquair House, Scottish Borders

SGLH were recently consulted by Forestry Commission Scotland with regard to a woodland creation scheme within the Traquair House Inventory Garden and Designed Landscape, Scottish Borders. The inventory entry for Traquair categorises the area has having High Scenic value owing to the contribution of the mixed woodland canopy to the Quair/Tweed Valley landscape.
We reviewed the woodland creation proposals alongside the First and Revised Editions of the Ordnance Survey of 1856 and 1897 and were pleased to advise that the proposals appear to strengthen the historic layout in this area of the designed landscape, reinforcing planting that was put in place in the 19th century.
