Conservation News: Carmichael

SGLH recently responded to a consultation request from Scottish Forestry with regard to the Carmichael Estate, South Lanarkshire.

The non-inventory designed landscape is shown on Roy’s Military Survey of circa 1755.  The plan shows it was an extensive and intricately designed landscape, which was probably laid out as the setting for Carmichael House which was constructed between 1754 and 1767 for the 3rd Earl of Hyndford.  SGLH consider the designed landscape to be of local, if not regional significance as the setting of at least ten Category B listed structures including Carmichael House itself, East End House and Steading, and the Mausoleum.
