Conservation News: Blackwood, Dumfries and Galloway
SGLH were recently consulted with regard to a felling license permission for the Blackwood estate, Dumfries and Galloway. The garden and designed landscape, provides the setting for the Category A-Listed stables and B-Listed Blackwood House, walled gardens, cottages, glasshouse and folly. The Blackwood Estate was also the birthplace of poet Allan Cunningham (1776–1834) and as such the Blackwood landscape is likely to retain at least Local if not Regional significance.
In our consultation response we noted that the proposed felling relates to the removal of Larch to control Phytophthera ramorum, and thinning of areas of Sitka spruce. You can read our full response here.
